60 years of tradition
- The company’s journey has started more than 50 years ago. Today we have turned the family business into a powerful multinational company.
- Having acquired a vast international experience so far, the company has gained knowledge of local markets distinctive features and adapted the brand to their specific needs.
- In Romania, Deroni is one of the main competitors, winning every year the trust and the appreciation of more and more consumer categories, continuing the successful tradition begun by Zone International Trading SRL.
- Deroni is a company whose main activities are importing, processing, packaging and distributing all types of grains, particularly rice.
- 1965 - Is the Company’s reference year. That is when the foundations of the international grain business were laid. The company grew rapidly and became one of the main grain importers.
- 1975 - 10 years later the company strengthened its position in the local market: sales increased and it became one of the leading food companies in Romania.
- 1980 - The first steps in making international transactions were taken. The first years of international activity were difficult due to the strong competition and growing inflation, but the company overcame all the obstacles.
- 1990-1995 - The Company reaches new markets: Bulgaria in 1990 and Romania in 1995. These were the first steps towards a successful business.
- 1995 - By the end of the year, the Company achieved exceptional growth. Foreseeing future economic benefits the company invested in a rice factory in Romania for the first time. That was the largest plant in Eastern Europe, fully equipped with German equipment and having the capacity to satisfy the demand of the entire region.
- The desire to protect the distribution channels on the market, together with the need to build a strong image for the end user, determined the Company to adopt a management strategy based on a vertical expansion by packing and distributing grains under the brand of DERONI, which, in Romania, is perceived as one of the market leaders.
- 2000 – At the end of the century, the company was successfuly operating in 4 countries having a labor force of over 500 employees.
- 2001 - Starting this year and after successful results in Romania, Deroni launched a similar product in Bulgaria - PANINO. That same year, in order to continue the growth and expansion strategy, another investment was made in an Eastern European country - Ukraine - a country with a new business potential.
- 2008 - Due to the ongoing concern for quality and performance, in 2008 the company has invested over 1 million euro in its Romanian sorting, cleaning and packing technology lines.
- Based on the 2008 consumption habits analysis, Deroni has launched in Romania a new range of rice and beans varieties specifically selected for different types of recipes placed in the top preferences of the Romanian people. The brand encompasses the following rice varieties such as: Deroni Sarmale (Stuffed Cabbage) , Deroni Pilaf, Deroni Extra, and Deroni Vital. and special bean varieties such as: Deroni Bob Ales, Deroni Gustos and Deroni Bob Mare.
- Information and communication technology allow this company to be a part of the global markets, promote accountability, improve services and distribution in order to increase the opportunity for local development. By implementing an integrated database, the company is able to incorporate the organization's goals in local policies and link those into the planning of a long-term strategy.
- The entrepreneurial talent that has transformed a family business into a multinational business in about half a century was not based on waiting. Cautious management, dynamic leadership, professional performance, proper planning, constant interest for improving quality and performance, have been confirmed in recurrent surveys and have backed up the investment that has made this business what it is today.
